Djarri x Darek - Makeup Meets Make Believe - Through The I

Through Covid and Lockdown, work has been ticking along supporting TV Broadcasts, Corporate live-links and in-studio engineering for a multi-national company. But as the Starks of Winterfell say, “Winter is coming” and it’s back to focusing on pure remote work. And with that, it’s been a pleasure to be deliver to the front page of Twitch again! Thanks to Through The I, I was part of the broadcast team to stream the event for over 5k viewers to see.

Djarii, twitch gamer and body painter from the UK, did a collaboration with the concept artist Darek Zabrocki, who’s works are included in the games Witcher 3, Death Stranding and Horizon: Zero Dawn. The goal was to merge the body art make-up scene with illustrations with contributions from the Twitch community. One of Djarii’s past pieces was a celebration of PRIDE, bringing a mix of feathers and colours together to a character. Being recreated live with Darek, he was taking the look as inspiration to put her in a fantasy scene over the course of 5 hours. How that scene looked though was through polls for the viewers to pick where she was, what she’s doing and other fine details. Coupled with a few giveaways too to win physical print of the piece, the audience was kept involved.

Being remote, we had the had to bring both Djarii in the UK and Darek in Poland together live which we did with the new-normal production magic. We’ll go with magic as it’s the first time as part of the background crew we were referred to the Twitch Fairies, Goblins and Gnomes… which of those I am, I’m not sure, as in my career we’ve joked about being a Hobbit/Halfing…

It was a successful stream overall, with the final outcomes looking swish. Viewership was great, takes front and centre on Twitch Front page, the traffic driven had the number well over 5k, something that’s great for the platform!

Skype TX - Kinura - Bringing Live-links to multi location events

Working in the streaming industry for quite a few years now, I’ve had the pleasure of delivering and working on project that require linking up people across the globe for some live interaction. Although it’s been a periodical thing for us, it seems more interest is amping up in this now.

But how do you choose the right method of linking up and how do you get the best quality? Slightly older school methods have swayed to using Video Conferencing units. This way may be fine if you’re in the boardroom, but if you’re working with someone across the pond that’s only got a laptop available then it’s best to use something they understand. And that’s where Skype TX can come in.

Now Skype TX isn’t a new thing, it’s been kicking around for a while now. The great thing about it is the hardware that’s been developed to allow TV Broadcasters such as News channels to bring in a commentator abroad and get a video signal with professional connections for an interview live. That is, TV broadcast and Internet Broadcasting too.

Working with Kinura, one of the UK’s #1 live stream companies, we’ve brought together people in a simple 2 way link from Leeds to London for internal comms, and even 4 way link for a conference happening simultaneously across the UK. Doing this, you have to get your head around some of the audio + video in’s and outs. What’s different in these instances is that you’re not doing it just for broadcast, you’re also doing with for people at the venue and no-one really wants to hear and see themselves talking back at them!

Our tech of choice in delivering this time round has been the Newtek Talkshow VS-100, with a few of them paired up on location. With these, we can appropriately split the audio into the Venue sound desk, and video into a Vision mixer. With some control on the unit itself, the audio desk then plays it’s part in splitting the audio out to the venue, the webcast and the return feed to Skype. Of course, to get your head around it you definitely need a diagram or too to make sure the AV team are on the same page, and we’ve got plenty in the broad and bespoke to each venue.

Internet Broadcast always has it’s own challenges over Traditional broadcast, as we’re not just about point to point, we’re about the live event as a whole. What the client needs for the experience dictates what we need to deliver, and at times it’s more than simply pointing a camera at someone. But that’s not to say we can’t use some of the tech and toys that Traditional has to offer!

If you’ve for an event that requires production and a Webcast studio, then Kinura is definitely your go to. You can find out more about them here - kinura.com

Of course, if you’ve got anything that requires crazy AV, then give us a shout here at Viridian VS!

Wolf Media Company - Amanda Palmer - There Are No Intermissions!

Streaming services is our bag; Big, Small, any sized production and any content. And that’s why we got involved with our production partner at Wolf Media Company. Working on high-quality shoots, it’s a joy to work on cool events and see live audience reactions online!

Coming to the close of the year and the close of a European tour, WMC got involved with Amanda Palmer last UK performances of her 4 hour show “There Are No Intermissions!”. Punk Cabaret with some heavy themes, Amanda has a strong following with fans contributing on Patreon. For those who couldn’t attend her shows, the event was streamed to Crowdcast.io, a platform that Patreon supporters can have a private viewing live and just for them.

With over 2000 registered and unique viewers, coupled with great quality content and video production, both fans and Amanda were happy with the event. Taking along our 4g Bonded hardware encoder, we made sure that they wouldn’t miss a melody!

But dont just take our word for it, here’s what the supporters said themselves!

Track And Field - Nike X Bone Soda x Off-White - TYSI Media

Video Engineering is one of the things we love, and will take on any chance we get to work on a big event and make it work. And that’s exactly what we did this weekend.

Working with TYSI Media, we delivered the London event of Nike + Off-White + Bone Soda collab Track and Field event at the Lee Valley Athletics. Covering 6 sporting events + DJ’s in an indoor arena, it was a tough few days.

The goal was to produce a Main Programme with 3 presenters to indoors screens, with break offs into the separate games. Incorporating graphics, VT’s, replays and highlights content. It was a big event to get rigged, and by big, I mean;

16 camera shoot - including 8 RF cameras, PTZ's and on tripods.

3 x Tricasters with 2 x 3play units.

Chroma Keyed content as a separate feed.

Lengthy Cable runs.

Plenty of cups of tea.

And the satisfaction of when it's all working, it's just working.

No doubt though, the crew were amazing and without them, it wouldn't of been the success it was!
